2010 Paddle Alberta Benefits Policy & Requirements:

Updated Feb 17 2010

*NEW POLICY Member ORGANIZATIONS:
Matching Grant for Instructor Development Certification

In addition to Paddle Canada and Paddle Alberta Instructor certification courses, SKILLS development and non-certification courses and training in canoeing, kayaking, (but not river kayak instructor certification, contact Alberta Whitewater Association for this), river rescue and wilderness first aid are now an allowable matching grant expense. This includes non-certification river rescue courses and wilderness first aid courses (courses less than 40 hours in length) taught by certified instructors/technicians and/or are provincially/nationally recognized courses.

  1. All grants/subsidies are credit-based earned by current Members in good standing with Paddle Alberta. Funds are provided on a matching basis.  GST is not included or to be calculated in the grant/subsidy. A copy of receipts must be provided and be in the name of the Organizational Member not an individual (unless in name of Instructor for Instructor Certification Upgrade Subsidy). Receipts must be legible, and only expenses with dated receipts incurred in the current calendar year are eligible.
  2. Grant/subsidy credit-based policies are to be set yearly by Paddle Alberta executive and will be established at the AGM for the coming year. Then, working with the budget and the earned credit-based funds sums, the executive will allocate funding amounts and announce to Members early in the calendar year.
  3. Grant/subsidy credits are earned by member or individual contributions through: attendance at one general meeting per year ($500/member), position on Paddle Alberta executive ($500/member), position on committee ($200/member), or the bi-annual Paddle Alberta casino ($200/worker-shift).  Members can claim 50% of their earned credits in the first year 2008 and the balance in the second year 2010, for the 2-year casino funding period January 1, 2010 to December 31, 2011.
  4. The 2011 casino will be between Oct-Nov 2011 in Edmonton and applications to volunteer will be available in June 2011. Travel assistance funds are provided for out-of-town volunteers.
  5. Organizational Membership fees are due March 17 2010 and Insurance Program Application (Liability, Property and additional floaters insurance) deadline is March 19 2010. The Club/NFP must be a current paid Paddle Alberta Member and a registered Society to qualify.
  6. Organizational Member Matching Grants for Equipment/Building/Instructor Development Certification is for the Jan 1, 2010 to Dec 31, 2010 Casino Funds time period. Paddle Alberta must receive your Final Report with 2010 dated receipts by October 1, 2010 and with 2011 dated receipts by Oct 1 2011.
  7. Paddle Alberta must receive all financial related items no later than October 1. Members that do not pay their insurance invoice by this date will not qualify for an insurance subsidy in subsequent year. Any member in arrears for financial reporting or payment shall not be eligible for the following year’s support.
  8. Application deadlines (except Insurance Program) maybe extended by application to the Paddle Alberta staff person and subsequent to approval by the Paddle Alberta Executive.
  9. Ten minutes before the call-to-order at each Paddle Alberta general meeting the: Not for Profit, Commercial, Instructor, and Individual members present MUST meet and determine their voting delegates.
  10. General meeting travel is at the rate of $0.37 / km. Car pooling is to be encouraged, and if rental vehicle cost is significantly (>15%) lower, then a rental vehicle should be used. An additional Long Distance Travel Policy applies to members over 275 km one-way from the meeting location. The Travel Expense Claim Form will be available to members at General Meetings.
